Privacy Policy

Your privacy is our top priority. This policy explains exactly how (and how little) data is handled when you use our Work Hours Calculator.

Last updated: July 1, 2026

The Short Version

  • We do not collect your personal data. Everything you type into the calculator stays in your browser.
  • We do not require accounts or logins. You can use the tool completely anonymously.
  • We do not sell or share data with third-party advertisers or analytics companies.
  • Your data never leaves your device. All calculations are performed locally.

1. Information We Collect

Data you enter: When you use the Work Hours Calculator, you input start times, end times, break durations, and optional pay rate settings. This data is stored exclusively in your browser's Local Storage. It never leaves your device, is never transmitted to our servers, and is completely inaccessible to us.

Data we do NOT collect: We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, or any other personally identifiable information (PII). We also do not collect information about your employer, your job title, your salary, or any other sensitive employment details.

Technical information: We do not log your IP address, browser type, operating system, screen resolution, or any other technical details that could be used to identify or track you across websites.

2. How We Use Local Storage

To provide a seamless experience, your browser automatically saves your timesheet entries and settings so you don't lose your work if the page refreshes. We use Local Storage for the following:

  • Saving your daily work hours and break times for the week (whc_week_[date]).
  • Remembering your calculator preferences, such as 12/24 hour format and overtime thresholds (whc_settings).
  • Preserving your pay rate settings if you choose to calculate earnings (whc_payrate).
  • Storing your custom overtime rules if you've configured them (whc_overtime).

Data retention: The data in Local Storage remains on your device until you manually clear it. We do not implement any automatic data expiration or deletion. The data is not synchronized across devices and is only available on the specific browser and device where you entered it.

How to clear your data

You can erase all saved timesheet data instantly by clicking the "Reset" button on the calculator. Alternatively, you can clear your browser's Local Storage/Site Data via your browser settings. In most browsers, you can do this by going to Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > All Sites, finding our website, and clearing the data.

3. Cookies and Tracking

We do not use cookies to track your behavior, analyze traffic, or serve advertisements. There are no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, and no third-party analytics scripts (like Google Analytics) running on this website.

What we don't do:

  • We don't use session cookies or persistent cookies of any kind.
  • We don't implement browser fingerprinting techniques.
  • We don't track which pages you visit or how long you stay on them.
  • We don't track your clicks, scrolls, or other user interactions.
  • We don't use retargeting or remarketing technologies.
  • We don't implement any form of cross-site tracking.

The only data stored in your browser is the Local Storage data mentioned in Section 2, which is exclusively for the functionality of the calculator and is never used for tracking purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

While we do not share your data, our website does utilize a few third-party Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to load essential resources like fonts and icons. These providers may log basic technical request data (such as IP addresses) strictly for the purpose of delivering the content efficiently:

  • Google Fonts: Used to load the "Space Grotesk" and "DM Sans" typography. Google may collect your IP address when requesting these fonts.
  • Font Awesome: Used to display UI icons. Font Awesome may collect your IP address when requesting these resources.
  • Tailwind CSS CDN: Used for styling the webpage. This service may log your IP address.

Important: Your timesheet data is never shared with these services. They only receive technical information necessary to deliver the requested resources (fonts, icons, or CSS files).

If you're concerned about these third-party requests, you can use browser extensions that block third-party resources or configure your browser to block specific domains. This may affect the visual appearance of the website but will not impact the calculator's functionality.

5. Data Security

Because all data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted over the internet, it is protected by your device's own security measures. We do not hold any server-side databases containing user information, meaning there is no risk of a server-side data breach exposing your work hours.

Security of your device: The security of your data is only as strong as the security of your device. We recommend:

  • Using a passcode, PIN, or biometric lock on your device.
  • Keeping your operating system and browser up to date with the latest security patches.
  • Using reputable antivirus/anti-malware software.
  • Avoiding using public or shared computers for sensitive calculations.

No encryption needed: Since your data never leaves your device, there's no need for us to implement encryption for data in transit or at rest. The data is only accessible to applications running on your device with appropriate permissions.

6. Children's Privacy

Our service is intended for general use, including by businesses and employees. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in the applicable jurisdiction). Since we do not collect data from anyone, this applies by default.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has somehow provided personal information through our service, please contact us immediately using the information provided in Section 10, and we will take appropriate action, though there is no data for us to delete since we don't collect any.

7. International Data Transfers

Since we do not collect, store, or process any personal data on our servers, there are no international data transfers to consider. All data remains on your local device, subject to the laws and regulations of your jurisdiction.

If you are using our service from outside the United States, please be aware that the third-party CDNs mentioned in Section 4 may be hosted in different countries, but they only receive technical information necessary to deliver the requested resources.

8. Your Rights

Various privacy laws around the world grant individuals certain rights regarding their personal data. While we don't collect personal data, we respect these rights and are committed to helping you exercise them:

  • Right to Access: You can view all data stored in your browser by using your browser's developer tools (usually F12 > Application > Local Storage).
  • Right to Deletion: You can delete all your data at any time using the "Reset" button in the calculator or through your browser's settings.
  • Right to Rectification: You can edit any of your timesheet entries directly in the calculator at any time.
  • Right to Data Portability: You can export your timesheet data using the export feature in the calculator (if available) or by copying it from Local Storage.
  • Right to Object: You can object to any data processing by simply not using the calculator or by clearing your browser's Local Storage.

If you wish to exercise any of these rights and need assistance, please contact us using the information in Section 10.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page, and the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Material changes: If we make material changes to this policy that affect how your data is handled, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you, such as by posting a prominent notice on our website. However, since we don't collect personal data or have a way to contact you directly, we rely on you to check this page periodically for updates.

Continued use: Your continued use of the Work Hours Calculator after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of such changes.

11. Our Commitment to Privacy

We believe that privacy is a fundamental right, not a feature to be marketed or a box to be checked. Our commitment to privacy extends beyond mere compliance with laws and regulations:

  • Privacy by Design: We built this calculator with privacy as a core principle from the beginning, not as an afterthought.
  • Minimal Data: We collect the absolute minimum amount of data necessary to provide the service - which is zero.
  • Transparency: This policy is written in plain language to be easily understood, not hidden behind legal jargon.
  • User Control: You have complete control over your data at all times.
  • No Monetization of Data: We will never change our business model to one that relies on collecting or selling user data.

We hope that our approach to privacy sets an example for other web applications and contributes to a more privacy-respecting internet.

12. Limitation of Liability

While we have designed our calculator to be accurate and reliable, we make no warranties or guarantees regarding the accuracy of calculations. Users are responsible for verifying the results against their employer's timekeeping systems or other official records.

Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, we cannot be held liable for any loss, corruption, or unauthorized access to data stored in your browser's Local Storage. The security of your device is your responsibility.

This Privacy Policy does not create any legal rights for you or any third party, and it does not require us to compensate you for any reason.

13. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising from this Privacy Policy or your use of the Work Hours Calculator shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation or, if necessary, through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association.

14. Acknowledgment

By using the Work Hours Calculator, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, you should not use our calculator.

We thank you for trusting us with your time tracking needs and for valuing privacy as much as we do.
